BKL Opens Overseas Offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

BKL opened offices in Hong Kong, the Middle Eastern city of Dubai and in Vietnamese cities Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The newly opened offices are ready to serve as a legal partner for both Korean and foreign companies operating in the respective jurisdictions. BKL created a team dedicated in dealing with clients in the Middle East, where the booming construction and the development of oil and gas are increasing the demand for legal advice. BKL’s Dubai office will advise companies making their way into the local market on construction, resource and energy, incorporation of legal entities and international arbitration. Opening of Ho Chi Minh City Office

Tilleke & Gibbins Adds Senior IP Enforcement Lawyer in Vietnam

Tilleke & Gibbins is pleased to announce the addition of associate Trung Nguyen to head the firm’s expanded IP enforcement team in Ho Chi Minh City. A seasoned IP professional with more than 15 years of experience in Vietnam, Trung was previously the head of the patent team and the dispute resolution team at Rouse Legal in Vietnam. Prior to joining Rouse, Trung had been head of investigation and enforcement at Investip. Trung is a qualified lawyer and registered IP agent, and also holds a degree in mechanical engineering. “Our IP enforcement team has been doing excellent, groundbreaking work from our Hanoi office,” said Thomas J. Hogan Lovells Adds Third Corporate Partner Hire in Asia 2014

Hogan Lovells has announced that Jeff Olson has joined its Vietnam corporate practice as a partner in the Ho Chi Minh City office. Jeff joins from Allen & Overy in Vietnam and is U.S. qualified, having previously worked in New York up until his move in 2012. Jeff advises on a broad range of M&A (public and private), joint ventures, strategic investments, foreign direct investment, corporate and acquisition financing, and general corporate matters. His client base is both domestic and global, and he advises on both single jurisdiction and cross-border transactions in Asia and the U.S. Jeff's arrival follows that of high profile TMT partner Mark Parsons from Freshfields in January this year, and fellow M&A and private equity partner Steven Tran in September, both in Hong Kong. Baker & McKenzie Advises Minh Phu - Hau Giang Seafood Processing Company on the Sale of Its Shares to Mitsui & Co.

Baker & McKenzie has advised Minh Phu - Hau Giang Seafood Processing Company (“MPHG”) on a VND400 billion-valued acquisition by Mitsui & Co (“Mitsui”). MPHG is the major processing subsidiary of Minh Phu Seafood Corporation (“MPC”). The deal involved the purchase of more than 30 percent of MPHG's shares by Mitsui through a private placement, which led to the conversion of the corporate form of MPHG. “The success of this deal is a testament to our Firm's ability to meet our client's high expectations and to complete the negotiations and documentation for this acquisition within a very tight timeline,” said partner Nguyen Hoang Kim Oanh, who led the team. MPC is one of the largest vertically-integrated Vietnamese shrimp processing companies and exporters, with operations across the full scope of aquaculture process, from post-larvae rearing, shrimp farming, processing and sale & export. Their total volume of exports is approximately 15 percent of the total exporting volume for Vietnam, and it is the market leader in the industry. MPC exports their products to the US, Europe, Japan, Korea, Canada and Australia, and has expanded their operations to reach customers across the globe. The acquisition by Mitsui represents a milestone and marks a strong development in the 15-year long partnership between the two corporations. It also show MPC's ambition to expand its footprint in the world market. The Baker & McKenzie team, led by partner Nguyen Hoang Kim Oanh and special counsel Nguyen Thuy Hang, was responsible for the deal negotiation and transactional documentation drafting.
