DLA Piper continues to strengthen its capabilities in greater China with the appointment of Kaichen Xu to its Shanghai office as an Of Counsel in the Corporate Group, where he will work closely with team members in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Kaichen’s appointment will enhance DLA Piper’s well-established and growing greater China corporate practice.
Kaichen has a broad corporate practice with a focus on private equity and venture capital (PE/VC), cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and foreign direct investment in China. He is also experienced in handling initial public offerings (IPO) of China-based companies on overseas capital markets as well as advising clients on real estate and restructuring matters in China. Prior to joining DLA Piper, Kaichen practiced in both China and the US.
Kaichen has advised many of the most well respected PE and VC clients active in China, such as Actis, Carlyle, IDG and Merrill Lynch. He has represented clients on more than 50 PE/VC investment transactions ranging from early stage financings to growth stage and pre-IPO investments, and involving investee companies across a variety of industries, including new energy, new media, internet, bio-tech, education and traditional manufacturing industries. He has also represented financial institutions and multi-nationals in connection with structuring and closing cross-border M&A transactions in China.

Kaichen joins DLA Piper from a leading international law firm where he served as Counsel. He is a New York qualified lawyer and earned his JD from Yale Law School in the US, with an MA from Harvard University and a BS (1st Class Hon.) from the National University of Singapore. Kaichen is a native speaker in Chinese, and fluent in English.
