Leading Construction Partner Joins Squire Sanders in Sydney

Squire Sanders has announced the appointment of construction partner Avendra Singh, who has joined the firm from Colin Biggers & Paisley.

Mr. Singh has over 27 years of experience in the field of construction and projects law from both a contentious and non-contentious perspective. He has been named in Doyle’s Guide to the Australian Legal Profession 2012 as one of the Leading Construction Lawyers in New South Wales.

Mr. Singh has extensive experience in providing strategic advice on the structuring and delivery of projects and the negotiation, drafting and administration of contracts. He has advised on major transportation, infrastructure and communications projects, together with residential and commercial developments. He recently advised on the $2 billion upgrade of Sydney Airport, the redevelopment of the Royal Agricultural Showground, Olympic Park, and the creation of the Collins Square Precinct, Docklands in Melbourne.

Partner Greg Steinepreis, who heads the construction team in Australia, commented: “Avendra is a key addition to our practice. His experience complements that of the existing team, which has a track record in advising on major public infrastructure projects and urban redevelopment.”

Mr. Singh also brings considerable experience in claims management and dispute resolution. He has conducted litigation resulting in major decisions affecting the operation of the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act.

“Avendra is held in high regard by his clients for his technical expertise and practical approach to dispute resolution. We’re delighted to welcome him to the firm,” added litigation and major projects partner, Cris Cureton.

Mr. Singh is the fourth partner to join Squire Sanders in Australia in the past six months, following the recent arrival of Campbell Davidson, Richard Horton and Cris Cureton. The firm now boasts a 16-partner team based across its Perth and Sydney offices.

“Avendra is a very experienced and capable lawyer who will add significant depth to the services we offer clients in this area,” said John Poulsen, Squire Sanders’ managing partner in Australia. “He joins our dynamic team in Australia which is continuing to grow in response to client demand. We have very ambitious plans to build on our existing expertise in core practices such as construction, projects and infrastructure, and Avendra is a very important part of that strategy.”
