Scott Hutton Joins Kilpatrick Townsend’s Growing Dubai Office

Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today the addition of attorney Scott Hutton to the firm’s growing Dubai office. Scott joins the firm as a senior associate on the Construction & Infrastructure Projects Team.

Scott has significant experience in a wide range of construction and property development matters. The breadth of his work on property-related matters includes sales and purchases; industrial, commercial and residential development and construction; leases, easements, and licenses, and finance and investment. Prior to joining Kilpatrick Townsend, Scott practiced with a Dubai-based firm where he advised a broad mix of local and international clients on real estate and construction matters. His experience extends both to transactions and disputes, including handling numerous arbitrations arising from the Dubai real estate and construction market.

Scott has expertise in acting for sellers, purchasers and lenders, as well as employers, contractors and funders. He has acted for local developers and landlords as well as international investors and contractors. Scott is well acquainted with all of the standard forms of construction contract, with an emphasis on the FIDIC based contract, the most common form of contract used in the UAE. He has also drafted and negotiated bespoke contract documents.

Scott has an extensive background in the commercial property markets of Scotland, Ireland and the UAE. He has represented major developers in residential, leisure, commercial and mixed use developments. Scott is also well versed in commercial leasing and asset management, having acted for institutional landlords and investors together with major retail chains. He has advised both landlords and tenants on all leasing related matters and is keen to promote a better understanding of the FRI (full repairing and insuring) lease in the UAE.

Scott has been recommended by the Legal 500 (2009) for “attention to detail, in-depth knowledge of the applicable laws and interpretation of the law’s application in the commercial environment of Dubai”.

He is a tri-qualified solicitor being a member of the Law Societies of Scotland, Ireland and England and Wales. Scott obtained his LLB from Glasgow University and was admitted to the Law Society of Scotland in 2000. He was subsequently admitted to the Law Society of Ireland in 2005, and that of England and Wales in 2010. Scott is currently a member of the Society of Construction Law in the UAE and the UK.
