Sparke Helmore Lawyers is pleased to announce the appointments of Martin Taylor, Jennifer Anderson and Darren Rankine to its Commercial & Projects Group in its Newcastle office.

“We’re delighted that Martin, Jennifer and Darren have joined us in Newcastle. Their expertise, deep industry understanding and local knowledge will be an asset to the firm and will enhance our offering to clients in the Hunter region,” said Paul Gavazzi, who leads Sparke Helmore’s National Commercial & Projects Practice Group.

Martin Taylor joined the Construction, Projects & Infrastructure team this month. He recently returned to Newcastle from London where he worked at an international firm on some of the largest construction projects undertaken across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Martin advises developers, owners, governments, contractors and lenders throughout the energy, retail, commercial, residential and infrastructure sectors and he has worked on significant Australian and international construction projects.

Jennifer Anderson became part of the firm’s Mining & Resources team in January 2013. She gained her considerable expertise and experience in mining, property and commercial law through her commercial role and earlier in-house legal role at global resources companies, and in private practice at top tier firms in Australia and New York City. Jennifer works with clients to implement strategies that secure their tenements and land access. She has significant expertise in tenements applications and securing access to, or advising on, land acquisition for miners and explorers, as well as negotiating and documenting frameworks for commercial transactions to support mining operations.

Darren Rankine recently relocated to Newcastle from the firm’s Sydney office and he is also part of the Construction, Projects & Infrastructure team. Darren advises public and private sector clients on construction and infrastructure projects through out the commercial, mining, maritime, water industry, retail and residential sectors. His previous experience includes roles with law firms in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Sparke Helmore’s national Construction, Projects & Infrastructure team now comprises more than 15 specialist lawyers, including four partners.
