DLA Piper today announced Matthew Glynn, one of Asia’s most experienced technology and telecoms lawyers, has assumed the role of Country Managing Partner in Singapore. Matthew takes over from Martin David who has been Managing Partner in Singapore since 2008. Martin will continue in his role as head of DLA Piper’s Asia Finance & Projects group as well as head of the Energy & Water and Mining sectors for Asia.
Matthew is currently head of DLA Piper’s Intellectual Property & Technology (IPT) team in Asia, as well as head of the technology sector for the Asia region. He will continue in both these roles, as well as that of Managing Partner for Singapore, where he will oversee an established office which currently comprises over fifty staff, working across a number of legal areas, advising clients in a wide range of sectors.
Matthew has spent no less than 10 of his 15 years experience advising on major IPT deals across the Asia Pacific region, having been based in Singapore for 5 years prior to joining DLA Piper. Matthew joined DLA Piper in 2006 to lead the Middle East IPT practice which rapidly became recognised as the leading IPT practice in the region, gaining 1st tier recognition in all professional directories. Matthew relocated back to Asia in September 2010 where he assumed the same role for the team based across DLA Piper’s Asian offices.
Matthew is a specialist in new market entry work and advises on the commercial and regulatory aspects of a wide range of IT and telecoms sector transactions, particularly in the Asian, African and Middle Eastern emerging markets. Matthew is a market leader in the strategic use of IT and communications infrastructure to achieve operational and capital expenditure efficiency for multinational organisations.
Commenting upon Matthew’s appointment Alastair Da Costa, Managing Director for DLA Piper in Asia Pacific said ″Matthew has returned to our Asia practice after having successfully developed the market leading IPT practice in the Middle East as well as having achieved recognition as the leading authority on IPT matters in the Middle East. Under his guidance our IPT team in Asia has rapidly established itself as one of the premier IPT practices in the region. I am confident that Matthew will have the same degree of success with his leadership of the Singapore office. His dedication to his clients and excellent management of his team are just two of the characteristics that he will bring to his new role.”
Matthew added “Singapore is an important regional hub for companies across South East Asia and East Asia and, in line with this, our office continues to play an important role as a regional centre. We could not be more serious about investing in, and expanding, our operations in Singapore. Singapore is an essential component of any Asia Pacific capability, particularly in the ICT space where Singapore is home to some of the regions largest technology and bio technology players. We offer a full-service, sector specific offering at a time when most international firms are rationalising their service offerings. Frankly, we could not be more excited about our Singapore agenda, the team we have in place and what it brings for not only our Asia Pacific practice but our global offering as well.”
Lance Miller, Asia Regional Managing Partner for DLA Piper added “as we enter a new era for the Singapore office, I would like to thank Martin who has done an excellent job as Managing Partner over the years. He will continue to lead a number of important initiatives in the region as well as supporting our development in several strategically important emerging markets. I know that Matthew will continue Martin’s good work and that he will be supported by Martin in his new role.”
