Blank Rome Launches China Company Securities Litigation Task Force

As China has grown to become a major source of new international stock listings, the market is facing increased pressure from regulators and unhappy stockholders. In the current turbulent environment, many Chinese public companies are becoming targets of shareholder class action and derivative litigation.  In response, Blank Rome has combined the multi-disciplinary expertise of its Delaware Chancery Court, Director & Officer liability insurance, Securities and Exchange Commission and regulatory enforcement, corporate governance and securities practices, into a task force that provides full-service solutions to the many complex aspects presented by the litigation facing these companies.

Barry Genkin, Chair of Blank Rome’s Asia Capital Market’s Practice, said, “Given the current focus of the plaintiff’s bar, U.S. regulators and Congress, we realized the importance of forming a top-notch team of professionals who understand China companies and the Chinese culture, and can guide China-based clients through these complicated matters.”

Blank Rome’s Litigation Department Head James T. Smith added, “This Task Force combines our strong litigation, securities and corporate governance practices, while leveraging our international presence.”

The Task Force members work to minimize the risk of litigation, defend against allegations and investigations, and handle matters in the U.S. courts, before the SEC and other regulators, including FINRA, through its U.S. offices, including Delaware, while handling fact finding, case management and client relations through its Shanghai and Hong Kong offices. The team consists of nearly 20 attorneys across various offices and practices working together, and alongside the Firm’s Asia Practice, to provide counsel to Chinese companies and clients.

Blank Rome’s Asia Practice provides experienced legal representation for Asia-based clients doing business in the U.S. and for U.S. clients doing business in Asia, through its offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong, New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Houston and Delaware.  Many of Blank Rome’s attorneys are bilingual and have extensive knowledge of Asian culture.  Our Asia based capital markets practice represents many Chinese public companies located throughout China in numerous industries, and companies seeking to list in the U.S.
