Clyde & Co is pleased to announce that Ian Cocking will join the firm’s Hong Kong office early next year to head up the firm’s China construction practice.
Ian Cocking joins Clyde & Co from Minter Ellison in Hong Kong where he was a partner. Ian’s principal area of practice is major construction projects, including project documentation and commercial contracts, advice on contractual issues and strategies for construction projects, and dispute management and resolution. Ian is a former member of the Construction Industry Council Procurement Committee and a former chairman of the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong. He is an accredited mediator with the HKIAC.
Ian is recognised as a leading construction lawyer in the Asia-Pacific Legal 500, Chambers Asia, and PLC Which Lawyer. Clients and peers praise Ian for his “astute strategies and positive attitude,” and for being “thorough and extremely responsive”.
Clyde & Co Hong Kong office head, Michael Parker, said: “This is a very exciting and strategically important development for our Asia practice and follows the hire of construction disputes partner Steven Lim in Singapore in October. Ian brings with him 20 years of top flight construction and dispute resolution experience and he will help drive forward Clyde & Co in the region.”
Clyde & Co global head of construction John Morris said: “We are actively strengthening the breadth and depth of services that we provide in the international construction and projects sectors. We’ve expanded our global offering this year with the arrival of the Shadbolt team, project finance specialists Robert Franklin and Chris Sykes and consultant Don Turley in Riyadh. Together with the hire of Steven in Singapore, Ian’s arrival underscores our commitment to our construction and projects clients in key markets around the world.”
Ian Cocking said: “This is a fantastic opportunity. Clyde & Co’s international construction and arbitration practices are doing phenomenally well and this is the right time to bring the firm to the Hong Kong and China construction market. I am very much looking forward to the challenge.”
