Clyde & Co Launches New Asia Aviation Finance Group

Clyde & Co is pleased to announce the establishment of a new Aviation Finance Practice in Asia. The new practice will be led by Paul Jebely, who joins the firm from Ashurst in Hong Kong where he was a senior associate and Head of Aviation for Asia, Middle East and Africa. Paul is experienced in negotiating and executing international aircraft financing, leasing and trading transactions, and has acted for the full range of industry participants on transactions covering all classes of aircraft.

Paul was named a “Rising Star” in aviation finance in the 2009 Euromoney Guide to Aviation Lawyers and was highlighted in the Financial Times in 2010 for his knowledge and expertise in African and Asian aviation transactions. He is qualified to practise in the US, Canada and England & Wales.

Clyde & Co global head of aviation finance Gavin Hill said: “By hiring Paul and growing the team around him, we are demonstrating our commitment to the Asian aviation finance and leasing market. We aim to provide a high-quality service across the commercial aviation, business jet and engine sectors; and are excited to work with inward investors and to help outward investors establish an international platform. Paul’s skills and personality suggest that he will prove to be a long-term success in the region, and we are delighted to have him as part of our team.”

Clyde & Co Hong Kong office head, Michael Parker, said: “Paul’s arrival represents the firm’s third senior hire in Greater China this year. He follows the arrivals of Ian Cocking in January to head up our China Construction Group and Michael Cripps in February to develop our China Corporate Insurance Group. These are strategic moves to build on our Asian capabilities in the firm’s core sectors and we are delighted to have attracted lawyers of the calibre of Paul, Ian and Michael to Clyde & Co.”

Paul Jebely said: “I have long considered Clyde & Co as the world’s pre-eminent aviation law firm, and am naturally very excited to be joining the firm. Our international aviation finance practice has been doing significant work in the region for some time which will provide an excellent platform for me to develop the practice further. I am very much looking forward to the opportunities this move will bring to me and to my existing clients.”
