International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed Howard Lam as a banking partner in its Asia finance practice.
Howard, who joins from Linklaters, will be based in Hong Kong and will work closely with the firm’s established Hong Kong finance partners, Andrew Heathcote and David Winfield.
His appointment strengthens the firm’s multi-jurisdictional Asia finance and corporate offering and comes at a time when increased M&A activity is fuelling a growth in the requirement for leveraged finance, bridge loans and pre-IPO financings.
Asia managing partner Rob Ashworth says: ‘Howard is a highly respected lawyer in Hong Kong with considerable experience in banking, project finance lending, cross-border debt restructuring and other financing transactions. His appointment ensures we are well placed for the complex financing work that we expect will become a mainstay of the growth economies in China and more broadly in Asia over the coming years. We all look forward to working with him.’
Global head of finance Alan Newton says: ‘Howard’s appointment adds further depth to our existing finance offering in Hong Kong and Greater China. Howard practises in English and Mandarin, and this together with his experience across a range of finance products working in London and Hong Kong makes him a valuable addition to our expanding Asia finance practice.’
