Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added Amy L. Sommers as a corporate partner in its Shanghai office. She joins K&L Gates from Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP.
An experienced transactions lawyer, Sommers counsels in a variety of regulated sectors, such as e-commerce, travel, education, finance, and transportation, on a broad range of business and commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, commercial financings, real estate development, and other finance and investment projects. She also advises on government investigations, product distribution, and manufacturing and intellectual property licensing arrangements, as well as on compliance matters such as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and anti-bribery compliance.
A resident of Shanghai since 2004, Sommers is a former leader of the American Bar Association’s China Committee and is the co-author of “Real Property Law in China: A Guide to Foreign Investment” (ABA Publishing, 2011), which discusses key laws and regulations relevant to foreign investment in China’s real property sector.
“Amy adds new dimensions to our China practice and is a terrific addition to our team in China,” said David Tang, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Asia.
“I am delighted to be joining the K&L Gates team and to continue working in Shanghai, serving companies seeking cutting-edge guidance on their China business issues,” said Sommers. “The strong reputation and capabilities of the K&L Gates team are of course well known to me. I look forward to working with and adding to that team.”
