Milbank to Launch Hong Kong Practice with New Partner Dieter Yih

International law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP announced today that Dieter Yih will be joining the Firm as a partner and will head the Firm’s Hong Kong law practice in 2011. The development reflects a significant expansion of Milbank’s 35 year presence in Hong Kong.

“We are expanding our capabilities in response to the sustained growth of international capital markets and M&A deal activity involving Hong Kong law,” said Mel Immergut, Milbank’s Chairman. “As one of Hong Kong’s leading corporate lawyers, Dieter will play a key role in meeting the growing needs of our corporate, private equity and investment banking clients.”

Anthony Root, who leads the Firm’s Asian corporate practice and its China practice adds: “We have worked alongside Dieter on deals for years – including the current Mongolian Mining Corp IPO, in Hong Kong. His expertise and experience will allow us to provide the full spectrum of advice on corporate matters under Hong Kong, English and US law.”

Dieter will join Milbank’s US partnership in January 2011 and Milbank’s Hong Kong partnership when it is established later that year. He will retire at the end of 2010 from Mallesons Stephen Jaques, where he has been a partner. Dieter’s practice focuses on capital markets, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions in Hong Kong and mainland China. He has been leading high profile public M&A and IPOs deals for over a decade. Dieter is Vice-President of the Law Society of Hong Kong and chairs its Standing Committee on Standards and Development and the Legal Education Committee. He speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
