Blake Dawson has appointed Singapore-based George Cooper as a partner in its Employment practice, to lead the firm’s new regional employment law practice across South East Asia.
George will join the firm from Freehills where he has led its Workplace Law & Advisory – Asia practice in Singapore since 2007 working with major corporate clients in the resources, banking and various other industries on workplace relations strategies and solutions across the region. He regularly deals with employment contract and policy reviews, termination and transfer issues and workplace risk management, and specialises in cross-border employment matters.
George’s appointment, from mid October 2011, comes as Blake Dawson’s national Employment practice looks to build on the firm’s regional presence in Asia. The firm has offices in Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo and Port Moresby, and an associated office in Jakarta.
Head of the firm’s national Employment practice, Richard Bunting, said: “We are delighted George is joining our team. He is an experienced and well-credentialed practitioner in Singapore and the surrounding region. His addition to our existing Employment practice allows us to offer on-the-ground employment law services in the region to clients both within Australia and throughout Asia. George will be key to us building our Employment practice throughout the region.”
