Addleshaw Goddard is pleased to announce that its plan to increase its capability in Hong Kong through a formal association with newly established local law firm Stewien & Co. has been approved by the Law Society of Hong Kong. The approval of the association will enable Addleshaw Goddard to provide additional multi jurisdictional advice to clients alongside its offices in the UK, Gulf and Singapore.
Addleshaw Goddard announced its intentions to open an office in the region at the beginning of this month to focus on litigation, employment and corporate work. Because of local regulatory requirements, Addleshaw Goddard has entered into an association with a local law firm led by corporate specialist Brett Stewien and litigation and employment expert Nigel Francis who will join the new firm on 1 November.
Brett and Nigel will be supported by a team of associates who include lawyers qualified in Hong Kong, England and Wales and Australia and who speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English. The team will work closely with Addleshaw Goddard’s team in Singapore led by international arbitration partner Jamie Harrison.
Andrew Carpenter, International Divisional Managing Partner, said: “I am delighted that we have now received all the necessary regulatory approvals. Building our capability in East Asia is a key strategic priority for us this year and our association with Stewien & Co. and our continued investment in our Singapore office and Malaysia Business Group provides us with a very exciting proposition for the future.”
