HWL Ebsworth Acts on Sale of Jindi Cheese to Dairy Giant

HWL Ebsworth has acted for the vendors of Jindi Cheese on its sale to French-owned Lactalis Groupe.

HWL Ebsworth’s team was led by tax and M&A partners, Leon Gorr and Jeremy McCarthy with assistance from M&A senior associate, Sam Dwyer and property partner David Marriott.

Jindi Cheese is an iconic Australian speciality cheese manufacturer with a range that includes a premium selection of white, washed rind, blue mould and pressed cheeses. Based in Gippsland, Victoria in the heart of Australia’s dairy farming region, its cheeses have won multiple domestic and international awards.

Lactalis Groupe is the largest dairy products company in the world with a presence in nearly 150 countries. In Australia, Lactalis also owns Parmalat, a producer of milk, dairy products and fruit-based beverages, and Lemnos, which makes Fetta and Haloumi cheeses.

HWL Ebsworth worked closely with corporate advisory firm Henslow Partners to achieve completion of the sale in an extremely compressed timeframe and managing competing bids for the business.

This transaction is the latest in a number of deals in which Jeremy McCarthy has acted in the Australian dairy sector including bids to acquire Warrnambool Cheese & Butter and Dairy Farmers and negotiating the yoghurt and fresh dairy products joint venture between Danone and Murray Goulburn Co-Operative.
