Jones Day Welcomes Prominent Fund Formation Lawyer in Singapore

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Carolyn McNabb, a prominent investment funds lawyer, has joined the Firm as Of Counsel in its Singapore Office. With Ms. McNabb’s appointment, Jones Day’s Singapore investment funds practice now has five lawyers, making it one of the largest and most experienced investment funds practices in the region.

Ms. McNabb joins Jones Day from Sidley Austin LLP, where she was influential in building that firm’s investment funds practice in Singapore. Ms. McNabb’s practice encompasses a broad range of transactional activities focused on alternative investment funds, including fund structuring and formation, as well as mergers and acquisitions, asset dispositions, and capital raisings in the asset management sector.

Chambers Asia Pacific, the leading directory for legal services in the region, ranked Ms. McNabb among the leading lawyers in Singapore for Investment Funds in its 2011 edition and commented that she was “noted for her experience in fund formation.”

Ms. McNabb’s arrival adds depth to Jones Day’s investment funds capabilities, enhancing the Firm’s ability to support clients in the region, particularly in fund formation. The regional investment funds practice of Jones Day has grown significantly over the last year under the guidance of funds partner Dennis Barsky, who returned to Jones Day at the start of 2010 after spending two years as a partner and PM at a Singapore based fund manager. Jones Day regularly represents leading sponsors in forming private equity and hedge funds, and our lawyers stay up-to-date on the latest market developments in this area.

“Carolyn’s arrival comes at an important time,” said Sushma Jobanputra, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day Singapore. “The regional alternative investment market has seen an increase in the number of funds being launched, which is an indication of the strength of Singapore’s investment fund market. Asia Pacific has emerged as the top ranked region for net investor demand since 2010 and this trend will only continue in 2011. With Carolyn on board, we hope to take advantage of this growth to become the preeminent law firm in fund formation for Southeast Asia.”
