Herbert Smith announced today that Kyle Wombolt has joined the global investigations practice as a partner. He will be based in Hong Kong as part of the firm’s 75-lawyer Asia disputes team – the largest group of dispute specialists of any international firm operating in Asia.
Kyle is a US and Hong Kong-qualified lawyer with over a decade of experience conducting multi-jurisdictional anti-corruption, fraud and accounting investigations across Asia. He has advised multinational and major regional corporates in connection with enforcement actions by US prosecutors and regulators under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and US securities laws. Qualified in New York, California and Hong Kong, Kyle was formerly a partner at Goodwin Procter in Hong Kong.
Kyle’s arrival will enable Herbert Smith to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ for US, English and local law investigations work across Asia. Herbert Smith will be one of the first international firms in the region to offer this level of service.
Mark Johnson, head of the Asia disputes practice, commented:
“There has been significant growth in investigations work for financial institutions and multinational corporates throughout Asia. While the focus of our work to date has been on Asian issues arising in these investigations, they increasingly have a US law component. The upcoming introduction of the UK Bribery Act will add a further international dimension.
“Kyle is one of a handful of US lawyers in Asia with the relevant background and experience. With Kyle in the team we can provide our clients with a unique fully integrated service. As well as covering the US law component, he will also take a wider role managing all aspects of clients’ needs in Asian-based investigations.”
