Winston & Strawn has hired Ge Xiangyang from Baker & McKenzie LLP. Xiangyang will be in charge of the firm’s new Beijing office. Winston & Strawn took over the Beijing and Shanghai offices from deceased firm Heller Ehrman LLP. Xiangyang focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions.

Blake Dawson has announced that it will not be merging with another UK firm and will instead focus on the Asia legal market. The firm plans to open an office in Tokyo in early 2010. The new firm will work closely with the office in Jakarta due to the increase of activity between Japan and Indonesia. The next step in the plan is to focus on the Australia market.

Two partners have left Linklaters for its Indian friend firm, Talwar Thakore & Associates (TTA). Narayan Iyer, a project finance partner, joins from Singapore and corporate partner, Kunal Thakore, joins from Hong Kong.  They are both equity partners at their new firm.
