King & Wood Mallesons’ Hong Kong Private Equity Practice Attracts Quality Lateral Hire

King & Wood Mallesons has expanded its Corporate and Securities practice with the lateral hire of Counsel Matt Egerton-Warburton to the firm’s Hong Kong office, where Matt will specialise in M&A and Private Equity.

Matt joins King & Wood Mallesons from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he worked as a Senior Associate in their M&A, Private Equity and Capital Markets practice. He has acted as lead counsel on numerous major regional M&A/Private Equity/Capital Markets transactions for investment and retail banks, private equity firms, hedge funds, sovereign wealth funds and corporate clients in the region. Matt is admitted to practice in Hong Kong, New York and Australia.

Matt’s appointment is the latest example of the firm’s ability to attract first class lawyers, following the recent lateral hires in Australia of partners Stephen Ridgeway and Peter Stirling from Ashurst and Senior Associate Sophia Finter from Gilbert + Tobin and King & Wood Mallesons’ commitment to strengthening existing practices with the injection of new talent looking to progress their careers and maximise the opportunities in the growing Asian market.

“The recent combination of China’s King & Wood and Australia’s Mallesons creates a unique legal partnership in the most dynamic region in the world. While practising in Hong Kong, I observed King & Wood’s enormous growth and success in China, and as an Australian, I looked on with pride as Mallesons continued to build its regional presence, global brand and reputation. The opportunity to join this new partnership, at this time, was too good to refuse. King & Wood Mallesons is uniquely positioned to assist both Chinese clients investing offshore and international clients investing onshore into China and the region making it an exciting time to join the team,” commented Matt.

King & Wood Mallesons Corporate and Securities partner Simon Milne, who is based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Matt to the firm. His strong track record and deep industry knowledge will complement the firm’s Private Equity practice and enhance our offering to clients in this competitive market.”
