Ashurst further strengthens Finance practice in Asia

Ashurst today announces the appointment of Chin Chuan Chen as a partner in its Finance team in Beijing and Singapore.

Chin Chuan joins the firm from Clifford Chance. He is a specialist in finance and debt restructuring transactions in Asia, with particular expertise in acting for Chinese banks and on energy, mining and infrastructure projects.

Patrick Phua, Head of Office, Ashurst Beijing, said: “I am delighted Chin Chuan is joining our firm and his presence will enhance the service and expertise we are able to provide our clients.

“Chin Chuan has an impressive track record in advising Chinese bank syndicates providing very significant levels of outbound financing into Latin America, Central Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. He adds significant depth and expertise to our China practice.”

Paul Jenkins, co-head of Ashurst’s global Finance division, said: “China has become a key lender and source of capital for many projects and borrowers around the world. Chin Chuan will play a key role in driving forward our broader strategy for China and the Finance division as a whole.

“We continue to invest and make key appointments to our Finance practice in the Asia Pacific. Anna-Marie Slot and Nigel Pridmore recently joined our Hong Kong office, Jennifer Schlosser joined in Sydney and we have relocated key partners to the region from other offices including Chris Tang from London. This investment reflects the strength of our commitment to continually enhance our existing offering and operate at the very top of the market in Asia Pacific.”

Chin Chuan Chen added: “Ashurst’s plans for its global Finance practice make it an exciting time to join the firm. I am looking forward to working with the team to build on the existing credentials and help to strengthen our overall client offering.”
