Clayton Utz Ramps Up Workplace Practice for Future Growth

Clayton Utz has boosted its national Workplace Relations capability with the announcement that Stuart Pill and Dan Trindade will be joining the firm as partners in the Melbourne office, together with their team of five lawyers and their support staff.

For the past seven years, Stuart and Dan have been principals of boutique Workplace Relations firm, Trindade Farr & Pill, providing expert advice to employers nationally.

Stuart and Dan are both well-known to Clayton Utz, having both practised as lawyers in the firm’s Melbourne office – Stuart from 1996-2004, and Dan from 1996-2001. Dan also has in-house legal experience as corporate counsel at Ansett / Air New Zealand, and Telstra.

Commenting on Stuart’s and Dan’s appointment, Clayton Utz Melbourne office Managing Partner and Workplace Relations partner Glen Bartlett said: “We are delighted to welcome Stuart, Dan and their team to the firm. Trindade, Farr & Pill has carved out a reputation for excellence in workplace and industrial relations advice over the last seven years for a substantial and diverse corporate client base. Their appointment is part of our plan to significantly expand the capability of Melbourne office which is currently in an exciting growth phase. Stuart, Dan and their strong team will add significant depth to our already strong national Workplace Relations capability. ”

The national head of Clayton Utz’s Workplace Relations & Safety practice, Joe Catanzariti, also welcomed the appointment of Stuart and Dan and their team as reflecting the significant growth opportunities in the area of Workplace Relations.

“A recent survey[1] has found that employment law is one of the key areas in which firms are looking to expand over the next few years,” said Joe. “Clayton Utz has an exceptional Workplace Relations Team and is committed to continuing to grow that team. There is no doubt that with an increased focus on the national IR system under the Fair Work Act 2009, and the resulting increase in disputes, including bargaining disputes, a full-service national Workplace Relations team is best placed to provide strategic advice and support to clients in this area.”

Joe added: “The appointments will add significant depth to our Melbourne Workplace Relations practice, where Dr Graham Smith has built an outstanding reputation, as well as providing our clients with an even greater depth of Workplace Relations experience nationally.”

Commenting on the appointments, Stuart Pill said: “Dan and I and our team are very excited about joining Clayton Utz. We are impressed by the vision Clayton Utz has for its future and for the Melbourne office in particular. We look forward to contributing to the very strong market reputation of the national Clayton Utz Workplace Relations team and to be part of the exciting growth of the Melbourne office. Having the full resources of a national law firm behind us will enable us to provide the highest levels of service whilst maintaining our current focus, working closely with clients to provide quality, pragmatic advice.”
