Clyde & Co Adds Corporate Partner in Qatar

International law firm Clyde & Co LLP has appointed Jason Majid as a partner* in its Middle East Corporate group, based in the firm’s Doha office.

A Canadian-qualified corporate lawyer with nine years experience in the Middle East, Jason has been based in Doha since 2007. He joins Clyde & Co from Simmons & Simmons’ office in Doha, and prior to this spent over four years in Dubai with Al Tamimi, during which time he was involved with the establishment of that firm’s office in Baghdad in Iraq.

Jason’s practice includes all aspects of corporate and commercial work with a particular focus on M&A, corporate structuring and joint ventures, capital markets, and foreign direct investment.

Commenting on Jason’s appointment, David Salt, Managing Partner of Clyde & Co’s Qatar office, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Jason into the team. The Qatar office has built steadily since its establishment in 2007 to a point where Clyde & Co is recognised as one of the strongest players in the market. Qatar is currently experiencing a period of unprecedented opportunity and Jason’s arrival fits with our broader strategic plan to increase capacity to service projects across the region, and further strengthens our corporate service offering. I am absolutely confident that our clients will benefit from Jason’s expertise and strong regional experience.”

Jason commented: “One of the key things that drew me to Clyde & Co was the firm’s determined focus around international trade and emerging markets. It is very exciting to be joining a firm with such strong international momentum and focus. I look forward to working with the regional and international teams alike in servicing both our Qatar and wider Middle Eastern client base.”

Clyde & Co’s Middle East corporate team have recently concluded a number of high profile transactions including advising on the MENA region aspects of the sale of Motorola’s worldwide networks assets to Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for USD 975 million and the USD 336 million acquisition of Oslo Stock Exchange listed Panamanian company, Maritime Industrial Services Co. Ltd. Inc (MIS) by Lamprell plc.

Jason’s appointment is the second of three Middle East lateral partner appointments to be made in the last quarter of 2011. The first was the recent appointment of Banking & Finance partner Adrian Low into the firm’s Dubai office. Adrian’s practice offering is focused on finance in connection with mergers and acquisitions, acting for lenders and borrowers, as well as in relation to general finance facilities. A third lateral partner announcement will be made in upcoming weeks.
