Clyde & Co expands International Arbitration team

Clyde & Co is delighted to announce that Steven Lim has joined the firm’s Singapore office as a partner in its international arbitration team.

Steven’s appointment reflects the dramatic growth of the firm’s international arbitration practice and the increasing importance of Singapore as a leading arbitral centre.  Steven will work closely with Singapore partner John Champion, a panel arbitrator for SIAC, SCMA and KLRCA.

Steven joined Clyde & Co on 1 October 2010 from the Hong Kong office of Baker Botts.  He returns to Singapore where he practiced for 15 years with a leading Singapore and international firm.  Steven has more than a decade and half of dispute resolution experience, focusing on international arbitration.  He has significant experience with oil and gas, energy, construction, shipbuilding, commercial and M&A arbitrations.  Steven has represented parties in large and complex arbitrations before major arbitral institutions, including the ICC, LCIA and SIAC and under the UNCITRAL rules.

Steven has received recognition as a leading individual in international arbitration and in international dispute resolution in Singapore, Hong Kong and Asia-wide in the Chambers Global and Asia directories where he has been described as “a pragmatic international arbitration professional who turns out quality work every time“, “an excellent communicator – he identifies the salient issues to pursue and lets you know what the game plan is.  He focuses people’s minds on those issues” and as “meticulous, technically minded and excellent at assessing the merits of a client’s position“.  Steven also sits as an arbitrator in ICC arbitrations and is on the ICDR and SIAC panel of arbitrators.

Clyde & Co international arbitration partner John Whittaker said: “The market for arbitration in Asia is set for dramatic growth and Singapore will be the foremost arbitral venue in the region.  With over 15 years of arbitration experience in Asia and his energy sector, construction and wider expertise, Steven is a strategically important addition to our expanding global arbitration team.”
