International law firm Clyde & Co is delighted to announce the appointment of shipping, trade and commodities partner Maurice Thompson. As part of the firm’s core sector strategy, Maurice, who will be based in Melbourne, will lead the firm’s shipping, trade and commodities practices in Australia, and will be a key part of the firm’s rapidly growing regional practices in those sectors.
Maurice arrives from HWL Ebsworth and will be joined by Senior Associates Renee Amundsen and James Cooper.
Maurice has been recognised by the International Who’s Who of Shipping & Maritime Lawyers, the Guide to the World’s Leading Shipping & Maritime Lawyers, Doyle’s Guide to the Australian Legal Profession and Chambers & Partners as one of the leading shipping and commodities lawyers in Australia. His practice comprises a broad spectrum of contentious and non-contentious matters for clients in the shipping, grain, mining, port and oil & gas industries both in Australia and internationally. With a significant practice across both Victoria and Western Australia, Maurice will also be working closely with the firm’s Perth, Sydney and Singapore offices in developing the firm’s regional shipping, trade and commodities practices.

The Australian offices have now grown to nine partners and 45 legal staff, in a year since the opening of offices in Sydney and Perth.
