Corrs has boosted its national banking and finance capability with the appointment of Clare Corke as a partner in its Melbourne office.
Clare is a banking and finance specialist who joins the firm from Blake Dawson. Prior to that, Clare was a director in the Banking and Finance department, and joint head of the Project Finance division, of pre-eminent South African law firm Deneys Reitz in Johannesburg (now forms part of the Norton Rose group).
Clare has advised on a wide range of banking and financing transactions over the past fourteen years, including major projects and infrastructure, resource finance, asset acquisition, leveraged finance transactions and syndicated debt.
Clare is recognised as a leading lawyer by Euromoney’s Expert Guide to Project Finance Lawyers, 2010.
Her clients have included Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), ANZ Banking Group, Commonwealth Bank (CBA) China MinMetals, Plenary and HSBC.
Clare’s appointment supports Corrs’ strategy of building and maintaining market-leading practices in Banking & Finance and Major Projects – two areas of strategic importance under its 2015 strategy.
Clare is the sixth partner appointment in its Banking & Finance practice in the past year, all coming from top-tier firms. The other recruits were Shaun McGushin (Freehills), Rommel Harding-Farrenberg (Freehills), Jeremy King (Blake Dawson), Brad Robinson (Mallesons) and Henry Self (Mallesons).

- RBS, Acciona Agua and United Utilities: Acting on concession and financing issues in their role as shortlisted consortium bidding for the Mundaring Water Treatment Plant project in Western Australia.
- Plenary: Acting on financing issues in the acquisition of an equity holding in the South Wharf precinct.
- Entities related to Leighton Holdings: Acting in relation to BrisConnections, the entity responsible for the design, construction, operation, maintenance and financing of the $4.8 billion Brisbane Airport Link, Northern Busway and Airport Roundabout Upgrade project.
- China MinMetals: Acting on financing issues supporting its proposed acquisition of the OZ Minerals Group, one of Australia’s largest zinc and copper producers.
- Australia and New Zealand Banking Group: Acting on financing issues in support of its acquisition of certain of the retail and commercial banking businesses of the Royal Bank of Scotland in Hong Kong and Indonesia and Singapore, and the entire banking business of the Royal Bank of Scotland in Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.
- Inalco Energy: Acting on project financing issues for Inalco Energy as joint venture participant with Verve Energy in the 220 MW Muja A&B coal fired power plant refurbishment project.
- McConnell Dowell: Acting for lenders on a club facility granted to McConnell Dowell to facilitate McConnell Dowell’s continued expansion in both Australia and South East Asia.
- Kalyx: Acting on concession and financing issues in their bid for the finance, design, construction, operation and maintenance of two prisons in South Africa.
- N3Toll Concessions (Pty) Ltd: Advising the financiers on the N3 Toll road, located between Johannesburg and Durban in South Africa.
- Government of the Western Cape Province of the Republic of South Africa: Advising the state on all aspects on its rehabilitation and psychiatric hospital PPP project.
