Drew Dutton to Join Debevoise’s Hong Kong Office

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP today announced the relocation of partner Drew Dutton to the firm’s Hong Kong office. The move represents a strategic expansion of the firm’s practice in Asia, which will significantly augment its Asian financial services and transactional private equity platforms in Hong Kong. Mr. Dutton is transferring from the Paris office where he was a partner focused largely on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions. As part of the move, the firm is also relocating four associates to Hong Kong.

Most recently, Mr. Dutton has worked extensively with American International Group, representing the company on several Asian-focused matters such as the proposed sale of its Asian life insurance unit, American International Assurance, and its Taiwan-based life insurance unit, Nan Shan. He has spent significant time in Asia and brings with him a strong network of relationships throughout the region.

In Hong Kong, Mr. Dutton generally will continue to work within the financial services area, representing multinational companies on a wide range of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, initial pubic offerings and dispositions. He will focus specifically on domestic and international transactions throughout Asia, advising both Asian entities and international parties interested in investing in the region. He will also lead transactional matters for the firm’s private equity clients, including both M&A and capital markets work. Mr. Dutton is proficient in Mandarin and fluent in English, French and German.

Martin Frederic Roberts, Presiding Partner of Debevoise, said: “We are excited that Drew has relocated to Hong Kong, and we expect him to play a leading role in the long-term growth of our Asian practice, which is an integral part of our deepening global network. This move underscores our commitment to the region and gives us added capabilities and an expanded presence to support our clients. Drew’s relocation is consistent with our strategy of further supporting and expanding our top-ranked insurance and private equity practices around the world. We look forward to all that Drew will bring in his new role.”

“Tom Britt and I are delighted to have Drew join us in Hong Kong,” said Andrew M. Ostrognai, Partner in Hong Kong. “Drew will be a strong complement to our current team and will significantly strengthen our ability to meet the needs of clients in Asia and around the world who are seeking to do business in the region.”

“I have spent quite a bit of time in the Hong Kong office over the past few years and am thrilled to have the opportunity to join such an exceptionally talented and dynamic group of attorneys and solicitors,” said Mr. Dutton. “Debevoise is remarkably well-positioned in the region, with great potential to continue expanding by leveraging its unique expertise and strong client relationships around the world. I look forward to working with my new colleagues to grow the Asian practice and serve clients on a wide range of projects in this region.”
