HFW is delighted to announce the strengthening of its construction and arbitration practice in the Middle East with the recent arrival of partner and arbitrator, Beau McLaren.
Beau is a construction and disputes specialist with over ten years’ experience in the Middle East. He joins HFW along with Senior Associate, Jane Miles, a construction and disputes specialist with over eight years’ Middle East experience, and Legal Executive, Addison Booth, bolstering HFW’s existing construction and disputes team in the region.
Beau and his team (who join HFW from Dentons’ Dubai office) advise parties at every level of the construction supply chain, from procurement through to contract management, and have significant experience assisting clients in the pursuit and defence of complex and high-value project claims. With a particular focus on construction-related arbitration, the team has extensive experience of international and domestic arbitration proceedings under most institutional rules, as well as in ad hoc proceedings.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Beau and his team to HFW,” says Rula Dajani Abuljebain, head of HFW’s Middle East practice. “Their first-rate skills and extensive on-the-ground experience bring significant momentum, balance and depth of expertise to our regional construction and arbitration practice.” The team’s arrival follows the recent appointment of Sydene Helwick, a Legal Director in the firm’s real estate practice with over a decade’s experience practising in the Middle East, first with a leading local law firm and, later, one of the largest real estate developers in the region.
Sydene has in-depth knowledge of the diverse types of commercial real estate transactions and project developments and has experience in advising property developers, investors, brokers, property managers, facilities managers, association managers and major landlords and tenants.

This marks the latest step in HFW’s expansion of its Middle East offering. It follows the firm’s significant extension to its regional geographical footprint with offices in Riyadh, Kuwait and Beirut, in addition to its longstanding Dubai office and alliance in Abu Dhabi.
