HWL Ebsworth Reinforces Commercial Practice with the Appointment of New Partner Shahriar Mofakhami

Leading independent Australian law firm HWL Ebsworth Lawyers has announced that Shahriar Mofakhami has joined the firm’s Commercial team in Melbourne as a partner.

Shahriar joined HWL Ebsworth from Greenfields, a Melbourne-based, boutique firm, where he advised on acquisitions and divestitures, securities and financial services law, taxation, corporate governance and risk management. Shahriar commenced his career at Mallesons Stephen Jaques and worked for a number of years in that firm’s corporate and taxation groups.

Shahriar’s general commercial expertise is complemented by his extensive background advising international and domestic companies and financial institutions, including private equity firms and hedge funds, in the agribusiness and related sectors on a wide range of corporate, commercial and financing transactions, foreign investment, projects, restructures and regulation.

Shahriar’s particular expertise in taxation and structured financial products saw him appointed as a member of the Expert Panel to the Australian Government’s Board of Taxation reviewing the taxation of Islamic finance transactions in Australia. He is also recognised in the Chambers & Partners Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers and the Asia Pacific Legal 500.

Shahriar has been joined in moving to HWL Ebsworth by Senior Associate, Amit Jois.

Shahriar’s arrival demonstrates HWL Ebsworth’s commitment to offering comprehensive corporate and commercial advisory services,” said Juan Martinez, HWL Ebsworth’s Managing Partner. “His appointment will help us to build on our excellent reputation in the agribusiness and commodities sectors and our strength as an emerging force in the corporate transactions space.”

We have expanded our commercial practice significantly in recent years in response to a growing demand for corporate and tax services from our clients,” added Juan.
