K&L Gates Continues Australia Growth with Addition of Employment, Corporate Partners in Melbourne, Sydney Offices

Global law firm K&L Gates has added three new partners in its Australian offices. In Melbourne, Nick Ruskin joins the labor, employment and workplace safety practice from DLA Piper, while both Edward Nixey and Glenn Hughes join the firm’s Sydney office as partners in the corporate and transactional practice, arriving from Ashurst and Henry Davis York, respectively.

With prior experience as an industrial relations practitioner and active in human resources circles, Ruskin is a leading Australian labor and employment lawyer and well-known public speaker and commentator on workplace relations. He brings a practical application to employment issues as well as an impressive depth of knowledge and experience.

“I am delighted to be joining the 2012 ALB Australasian Employment law firm of the year,” commented Ruskin. “The sizable employment and workplace relations practice in Melbourne and across Australia, as well as globally, is a perfect fit for the public and private clients that I proudly service.”

Nixey advises domestic and international clients on public/private mergers and acquisitions, equity capital markets, and securities regulation. He has extensive experience in a range of transactions, particularly in the resources and infrastructure sectors, including takeovers, schemes of arrangement, private treaty acquisitions and disposals, capital raisings, joint ventures, and private equity investments.

Nixey stated: “I am delighted to join a leading global law firm, K&L Gates, with its outstanding reputation in the areas of M&A, equity capital markets, and securities regulation.”

Representing foreign investors, ASX-listed entities, and private equity managers, as well as receivers, managers, and administrators, Hughes concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions with a particular focus on private equity. He has advised on numerous buy and sell side M&A deals, equity capital raisings, joint ventures, and restructuring transactions.

“K&L Gates has achieved phenomenal growth in assisting clients investing in the Asia Pacific region,” said Hughes. “There is no doubt that we will continue to see rising M&A activity, particularly private equity, with which the firm has an established history providing clients unparalleled capabilities and service.”

Nick Nichola, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Australia, remarked: “With the addition of these three outstanding lawyers, we are pleased to build on our labor, employment and workplace capabilities along with our significant corporate and transactional offering in the growing Asia Pacific market. Their extensive experience will enhance the services we provide to our clients.”
