Leading Construction Lawyer Joins Clayton Utz in Hong Kong

Clayton Utz in association with Haley & Co. continues to broaden its service offering to clients, with the appointment of construction dispute resolution lawyer Geoffrey Shaw as a partner.

Mr Shaw, who has practised in the Hong Kong market for over 20 years, brings to the firm significant experience in construction related arbitration and litigation, as well as alternative dispute resolution (both mediation and adjudication).

Mr Shaw has acted for clients across South East Asia and has worked on some of the largest and most complex matters in the Asia-Pacific region including advising the Hong Kong Government in relation to disputes arising out of the Chek Lap Kok new airport project; the construction of a nuclear power plant in China and a multi-billion dollar claim relating to a steel mill in Southern China.

Mr Shaw’s arrival follows the recent appointment of consultant Ilan Frieman, one of the region’s leading transactional projects and construction lawyers.

Clayton Utz’s Hong Kong managing partner Colin Dodd said Mr Shaw’s appointment reflected the office’s growing demand for specialist front and back-end construction legal services. “Just over one year on from the launch of our Hong Kong office through our association with Haley & Co, we are seeing continued strong demand from clients for specialist legal services in the construction area. Geoffrey’s reputation and experience are a great fit with our Hong Kong team, and will provide our clients with access to yet another experienced construction dispute resolution specialist.”
