Louis Skyner Joins Clifford Chance as Counsel

International law firm Clifford Chance announced that Louis Skyner has joined the firm as a counsel in the Moscow office. Skyner’s practice includes more than ten years of work in the oil & gas sector – an area of strength for Clifford Chance Moscow that will be further bolstered by Skyner’s presence.

Before joining Clifford Chance, Skyner worked as leading legal counsel at Statoil responsible for upstream projects with its Russian partners, such as the development of the Shtokman gas field in the Barents Sea, various offshore and onshore oil exploration projects with Rosneft, and the West Qurna II oil – field development in Iraq. Previous to that he worked for the law firm Wikborg Rein as part of their shipping & offshore practice, and as senior counsel at Petroleum Geo-Services. In his practice he has therefore advised both from the ‘contractor’ and the ‘client’ perspectives on different stages of the development of oil & gas projects.

Russell Wells, Global Head of Energy & Resources group, commented: “We’re committed to the strategic growth of our oil & gas practice in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and other CIS countries, and Louis’s background and impressive record will provide us with new opportunities to strengthen the firm’s presence in this sector.”

Logan Wright, Managing Partner and Head of the Banking & Finance practice at Clifford Chance’s Moscow office, added: “Clifford chance has a strong track-record of industry clients in the Russian oil & gas sector, and we are very pleased to enhance our offering with the addition of Louis to the team.”

Skyner himself commented: “I am thrilled to join Clifford Chance and become a member of a great team in Moscow and the extensive network of the firm’s lawyers around the globe. It’s an honour to work for one of the leading international law firms and I hope to demonstrate my value as part of a long-term commitment to Clifford Chance.”
