Middletons Adds to Its Sea of Talent with Appointment of Dorey

Middletons has announced the appointment of partner Ian Dorey, previously at Gadens, who will join the firm’s Banking, Insolvency & Disputes group in Brisbane. This follows a number of other strategic appointments the firm has announced over the past 12 months to further enhance its banking and insolvency capabilities.

In welcoming Ian, Middletons national managing partner Nick Nichola said, “Ian has more than 20 years experience in the area of insolvency and has advised financial institutions, receivers and managers and voluntary administrators in a variety of loan recovery and insolvency matters. Ian has relationships with a number of financial institutions and leading insolvency practitioners and has significant knowledge of the Brisbane market.”

Ian is also a skilled litigator and has acted for financial institutions on a range of commercial issues including alleged breaches of the Corporations Act 2001, allegations of misleading and deceptive conduct, claims under guarantees, actions under the Consumer Credit Code/National Credit Code, debt and mortgage recovery matters and general banking litigation matters.

Chambers, national practice group leader of Middletons’ Banking, Insolvency & Disputes group said, “Tough economic conditions and a lack of available funding is taking its toll on Australian businesses with corporate insolvency at record levels. We have a strong national team that understands the challenges clients face in this climate and Ian will add further depth and expertise to our group.”

In joining the firm, Ian commented that, “Middletons has demonstrated it can consistently evolve in response to client demands and market conditions. The firm has an excellent reputation in the market, particularly in the banking sector where it sits on the legal panels of three of the four major Australian banks. I am looking forward to being part of Middletons’ highly successful and respected team.”
