Orrick Continues Growth of its China Corporate Practice with Two Partners in Beijing and Hong Kong

Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe is pleased to announce the arrival of two new China Corporate Group partners, Mathew Lewis and Seung Chong, further strengthening the breadth and depth of the firm’s market-leading capital markets and M&A capabilities in the region.

Mathew Lewis has been appointed to the firm as a partner of its Capital Markets Group, resident in the firm’s Beijing Office. He will initially be based in Hong Kong.

As the former Head of Global Capital Markets, Legal, for Morgan Stanley Asia Limited, Mr. Lewis brings unrivalled market insight and a reputation as one of the leading capital markets lawyers in the Greater China region. During his time with the bank, Mr. Lewis worked on some of the highest profile capital markets matters in recent years, including the listings of AIA Group, Samsonite and Agricultural Bank of China. Admitted to practice in New York and fluent in Mandarin, he advises on the U.S. securities law aspects of regional and global listings. Mr. Lewis received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, and his undergraduate degree from Yale University.

Seung Chong has been appointed as a partner of Orrick’s M&A and Private Equity Group and will be based in its Hong Kong office. Mr. Chong is a leading mergers & acquisitions lawyer in Hong Kong. He has been based in Hong Kong and Beijing for over 20 years and has advised on some of the landmark inbound and outbound transactions in recent years.

Mr. Chong obtained his LL.B. from Buckingham University and LL.M. from King’s College, University of London and is a Senior Fellow at The University of Hong Kong. He is qualified to practice law in Hong Kong and England & Wales.
