Orrick announced that Scott D. Peterman has joined the firm as a partner in our M&A and private equity practice in Hong Kong. Scott joins from Jones Day. He is the sixth partner to join Orrick’s global M&A practice since last June and will be the firm’s fifth partner in Hong Kong. Last month, the firm announced the addition of Mark Lehmkuhler, a former Davis Polk partner, to our M&A practice in Hong Kong.
“The addition of Scott and Mark are two great steps forward in advancing our Greater China strategy,” said Xiang Wang, Orrick’s Asia Managing Partner. “They add to our team talent of the highest caliber and deepen our capabilities to serve the technology, energy & infrastructure and finance sectors, particularly in cross-border activities.”
Band 1 ranked for Investment Funds by Chambers Asia 2017, Scott acts for private fund sponsors and investors in the formation of alternative investment vehicles, including private equity funds, infrastructure and real estate funds, and hedge funds. In addition, he has advised on more than 150 account arrangements, representing sovereign wealth funds, universities, seeding and first-loss capital programs, family offices and individual investors.
Scott has extensive experience representing both Chinese state owned enterprises and private PRC companies. He is particularly active in China’s technology sector, complementing the Orrick China team’s strong capabilities in this market. His work includes M&A transactions, counseling FinTech start-ups, developing compensation and profit-sharing schemes, and assisting entrepreneurs in managing their wealth. Scott offers clients a unique perspective, having served for 13 years as a Silicon Valley senior executive prior to practicing law, including as Apple’s first country manager for China and Korea.
“Scott has a well-earned reputation as a leading practitioner. We are thrilled to add him to our team as we continue to build our China Corporate platform,” added David Halperin, Orrick’s Hong Kong Office Leader.
“I’m very excited by Orrick’s vision for its Asia platform and the firm’s global focus on serving the technology, energy & infrastructure and finance sectors,” said Scott. “Orrick’s growing China Corporate team is absolutely top tier, and I look forward to what we can build together.”
Scott was previously a partner with Sidley Austin and practiced at Kirkland & Ellis and White & Case for many years in both the United States and Japan. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.
