Rajah & Tann raids Hunton & Williams in Thailand

Singaporean firm Rajah & Tann has taken a team of 14 lawyers, including three partners, from US firm Hunton & Williams’ Bangkok office.

The team, which consists of three partners and 11 lawyers, will leave Hunton & Williams to join Rajah & Tann (Thailand), the Bangkok-based local arm of the Singapore firm’s regional network. Their practice areas span across banking and finance, corporate, capital markets and dispute resolution.

The team is headed by banking and finance partner Surasak Vajasit, who is experienced in insolvency and restructuring transactions as well as arbitration and litigation. The other two partners are Melisa Uremovic, who specialises in international trade and dispute resolution partner Pakpoom Suntornvipat.

With the latest additions, the lawyer headcount of Rajah & Tann’s Bangkok office has doubled to 30. The office was launched in 2012 as part of the firm’s regional expansion push (14 September 2011). Most recently, Rajah & Tann entered into Vietnam via setting up an alliance with local firm LCT Lawyer (18 February 2014).

Hunton & Williams said the firm remains committeed to invest significantly in the Bangkok office and it currently has 42 lawyers and legal assistants in the office. According to its website, there are five partners and 18 lawyers.
