Ronald Sum Brings Significant Maritime, International Trade, and Insurance Experience to the Firm’s Hong Kong Office

Blank Rome is pleased to announce that Ronald Sum has joined Blank Rome Solicitors in Hong Kong as Partner. He will be affiliated with the Firm’s International and Maritime Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution group.  Mr. Sum has practiced law in Hong Kong for more than 15 years and has conducted court proceedings on a global scale. He has litigation, arbitration, and mediation experience in Hong Kong, England, and the United States.

He is a great addition to our growing Asia practice and further enhances our expanding international platform.”

Mr. Sum joins Blank Rome from the Hong Kong office of international law firm Eversheds and was previously with DLA Piper. He concentrates his practice in litigation, arbitration, and mediation matters in the areas of maritime, international trade, insurance and reinsurance, product liability, and product recall. His experience includes charterparty disputes, defending and pursuing cargo claims, acting for and against logistics companies and freight forwarders and liability insurers in various types of claims, and representing ship owners and P&I Clubs in collision cases. He also frequently advises banks and shipowners on various forms of ship financing, drafting agreements, insurance policies, and various other transportation related documents.

Mr. Sum earned a diploma in maritime studies at Southampton University, his bachelor of law degree (LLB) at Sydney University, his bachelor of commerce degree (B.Comm) and master of law degree (LLM) at the University of New South Wales.Mr. Sum is recognized as a leading attorney in transportation and logistics by Asia Pacific-Legal 500. He is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
