Sparke Helmore Expands its Corporate Team

Michelle specialises in regulated and unregulated corporate transactions, funds management and financial services regulation. She started her career at King & Wood Mallesons as a senior associate in the corporate and funds group and also worked at Linklaters in London.

Michelle has also enjoyed industrious and challenging senior in-house roles at a boutique investment bank and an ASX 100-listed financial institution, where she was responsible for advising on the establishment and management of various wholesale and retail funds, corporate transactions (including schemes of arrangement, public takeovers, corporate restructurings, joint ventures, private acquisitions and investments), corporate governance issues and related transactional and advisory work.

Michelle currently advises ASX 100 financial institutions and companies, superannuation funds, onshore and offshore fund managers and foreign financial institutions operating in Australia. Michelle is known for her insightful and commercially astute advice on stringently regulated areas of law and her pragmatic management approach to complex transactions.

The team, which has significant international experience, has also been recently bolstered by the arrival of Senior Associate Vi-Ky Lam, who previously worked for Freshfields in London, and Katrina Dunn, a lawyer who previously worked for a boutique international firm.

Nick Humphrey, who leads Sparke Helmore’s National Corporate Practice Group, said: “In just two months, we’ve assembled a fantastic corporate team whose skills complement those of the corporate lawyers who were already at Sparke Helmore. Most of our team has worked overseas for top-tier firms, which means we bring international experience to mid-market M&A, ECM and private equity transactions in Australia”.

The firm’s National Managing Partner, Jesse Webb, agrees: “We’re creating a national corporate practice that builds on our strengths in the finance, mining, manufacturing, retail, property and construction industry sectors. For our clients, our Corporate team’s mergers and acquisitions, private equity, regulatory and transactional expertise enhances the value we offer”.
