Squire Sanders Boosts Global Corporate Practice with Expert Germany-China Team in Shanghai

Squire Sanders is pleased to announce that it has recruited to its Global Corporate Practice in Shanghai Dr. Benjamin Kroymann from Dentons.  Dr. Kroymann, a German qualified attorney, joins Squire Sanders as a partner together with team members, Furong Ren, as Senior Consultant, and Leon Xu, as Consultant.

Benjamin Kroymann focuses on equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate work. He has more than a decade of China-related experience, with a particular focus on business transactions between China and Europe. Between 2006 and 2008 Dr. Kroymann practiced in both Frankfurt and Shanghai, then spent two years in Berlin, where he led Dentons’ China Desk, and since 2010 he has been based in its Shanghai office.

Besides traditional foreign direct investment work for overseas investors, Dr. Kroymann mainly advises on outbound work for Chinese clients. Having advised on the first two IPOs of Chinese companies in Germany in 2007, and on many follow-up listings by Chinese companies since, he is one of the leading specialists for capital market transactions by Chinese issuers in Germany. Recently he has also been advising on Chinese listings on other European stock exchanges. Another important area of Dr. Kroymann’s expertise is outbound M&A for Chinese clients in Germany, Eastern Europe and Russia. A Mandarin speaker, also fluent in English, French and Spanish, Dr. Kroymann studied in Berlin, Madrid, and New York, and has a PhD on PRC corporate law from the University of Tuebingen.

Dan Roules, Office Managing Partner in Shanghai, comments: “We’re delighted to have Benjamin and his team join us in Shanghai.  With his impressive China outbound experience, his technical knowledge, and close connections to European markets, Benjamin will be a formidable asset for our clients in China and across Asia.”

“Benjamin will also be a great resource for clients already active in Germany and Europe”, says Kai Mertens, Office Managing Partner in Berlin and Frankfurt.  “He will be working very closely with our Berlin office in particular, where he has strong ties and direct experience in major projects, and can leverage his expertise in China to great effect.”

“The European IPO market is rapidly rebounding,” adds Jane Haxby, EMEA Chair of the Global Legal Practice, “and Benjamin will add his expertise to a strong global team with capital markets experience in London and Frankfurt, and other financial centres such as Warsaw and Moscow.  His involvement in our work advising on China outbound investment will also be invaluable; it is an important focus in Germany, which is a significant trade partner with China, and in other jurisdictions in Europe, where we have the critical resources to deliver the large-scale, complex cross-border transactions our clients are looking for.”
