Veteran Oil and Gas Attorney Joins Pillsbury’s Tokyo Office

Today, Dan LeFort, who has spent more than 30 years representing clients in the oil and gas industry both as outside counsel and as in-house counsel to some of the world’s best known energy companies, has joined Pillsbury’s cross-disciplinary Energy and Infrastructure Projects Team as a senior counsel in Tokyo.

LeFort comes to Pillsbury from Ashurst. Prior to that, he worked in-house at Qatar Petroleum, Shell, ExxonMobil, Union Texas, CMS Energy and Calpine. In addition to working in Tokyo, he has been based in Qatar and Jakarta. During his long career, LeFort has worked on matters ranging from upstream to downstream oil and gas, LNG, LPG, GTL and petrochemicals. He has handled mergers and acquisitions, as well as joint ventures and has worked on LNG terminal and gas pipeline projects, transportation agreements and LNG sales contracts throughout the world.

“This is an explosive time of growth in the oil and gas industry and we are thrilled to welcome an attorney of Dan’s caliber to help augment our industry leading energy and infrastructure projects team,” said James Rishwain, Jr., Pillsbury’s Chair. “Dan brings a perfect combination of in-house and outside counsel experience to Pillsbury and his background in LNG is particularly helpful as that sector is booming, especially in Japan and greater Asia. The timing of Dan’s arrival in Tokyo could not be more ideal for Pillsbury in service of our clients.

“Pillsbury has a long and outstanding reputation in international oil and gas,” LeFort said. “I’m thrilled to join a firm with such a deep understanding of energy and infrastructure project finance, and help Pillsbury capitalize on new work in Asia and the Middle East.”

LeFort earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Louisiana State University and is licensed to practice in Texas and Louisiana. He is a member of the First Tokyo Bar Association.
