White & Case Hires Japan Finance Veteran Tim Jeffares in Further Expansion of Its Tokyo Finance Practice

Global law firm White & Case LLP has announced today that it is strengthening the English law side of the firm’s leading finance practice in Japan with the hire of Tim Jeffares. Mr. Jeffares, who was the head of Clifford Chance’s Tokyo Office from 2004 to 2008, is joining the Firm in an Of Counsel role.

“Tim is an accomplished senior finance lawyer. He has significant experience working with major Japanese and international institutions which are active in the Japan market,” said John Hartley, head of White & Case’s Banking, Capital Markets & Restructuring practice in Asia. “His experience is highly complementary to our existing team.”

Mr. Jeffares specializes in debt finance, with his practice ranging from syndicated loan transactions to leveraged acquisitions, securitizations, and real estate finance. He has spent a substantial part of his career in Asia.

The addition of Mr. Jeffares to White & Case in Tokyo follows the transfer of English-qualified project finance partner Paul Harrison from White & Case’s London office to Tokyo at the beginning of 2012. Mr. Jeffares and Mr. Harrison join finance partner Simon Collins, whose principal area of practice is asset finance, giving the Firm three senior English qualified lawyers in finance in Tokyo.

Brian Strawn, executive partner of White & Case’s Tokyo office, commented: “We are already recognized for our top-tier Japan finance practice, but having Tim on board further bolsters our offering on the English law side of our international practice. He will provide senior international expertise plus an in-depth knowledge of the Japanese market — a combination which is in line with our strategy for serving our clients in Japan.”
