Baker & McKenzie Expands to Open 73rd Office in Seoul, Korea

Baker & McKenzie has received approval from the Korean authorities to open an office in Seoul. The office will be the Firm’s 73rd office and 46th jurisdiction globally and 15th office in Asia Pacific. The opening of the Seoul office on 21 May 2013 will reinforce the unrivalled breadth and depth of coverage of Baker & McKenzie in Asia Pacific and globally, and reflects the Firm’s continued expansion into high-growth markets.

Over the past two years, Baker & McKenzie has also opened offices in Peru, Morocco, South Africa, Turkey and Qatar, and recently announced that the respected United Arab Emirates firm Habib Al Mulla will merge with the Firm, establishing its presence in Dubai effective 1 July 2013.

Mr. Nam Hung Paik, a senior Baker & McKenzie lawyer with 25 years’ experience advising Korean and multi-national corporations, will be the Firm’s representative in the Seoul office. Initially the office will be staffed by three lawyers and will be expanded gradually. The Seoul team is part of the Firm’s extensive Korea practice comprising more than 40 lawyers across the Firm’s 73 offices.

The Korean outbound market is a key focus for the Firm. Baker & McKenzie provides advice to Korean clients in a number of industries on their outbound legal matters. This includes development projects, mergers and acquisitions, financing of overseas projects and enterprises, banking and finance matters, anti-trust advice, intellectual property rights, employment issues, disputes, corporate compliance and international capital requirements. The Firm is particularly well-positioned to assist Korean companies in the energy, mining, infrastructure, manufacturing and communications sectors by utilizing its uniquely well-dispersed global network as they expand into new markets.
