Baker & McKenzie, the leading global law firm, today announced that it has applied to the Korean authorities to open an office in Seoul, Korea.

Lawyers in the Firm’s Seoul office will extend the Firm’s significant international offering to Korean clients across a number of industries. This includes advice on their outbound legal matters, such as development, acquisitions and financing of overseas projects and enterprises, antitrust matters, intellectual property rights, disputes and international capital requirements. “Korean companies have been extraordinarily successful in expanding into international markets, and we look forward to continuing to assist them with their outbound aspirations”, said Eduardo Leite, Chairman of Baker & McKenzie’s Executive Committee.  “After many years of working with Korean clients in many parts of the globe, we will now have the opportunity to service our clients more efficiently and effectively with a base in Seoul.  We will continue to invest where our clients need us, and to provide them with the skills and experience they need in areas with the greatest potential for growth.”

Once the approval from the Korean regulatory authorities has been granted to open the Seoul office, Nam Hung Paik, Baker & McKenzie’s veteran transactional lawyer with 25 years’ experience, will serve as the representative of the new office.

Won Lee, leader of Baker & McKenzie’s Korea practice, stated, “Korea is a very important market for Baker & McKenzie. We look forward to extending our extensive global capacity to our Korean clients, with the approval of the Korean authorities.”
