Big Week for Sheppard Mullin Asia

Last week proved to be a major news week for Sheppard Mullin’s Asia practice.  The announcement of the official opening of its Seoul office was closely followed by news of the legal recruitment of Simon Kai-Tse Cheong for the Beijing location.

Many firms are lining up to enter the Korean market following the recent change in regulations.  Sheppard Mullin became one of the first to be granted approval last month and has now officially opened for business.  The new office will be headed by Seth Kim, who was located in the firm’s New York and L.A. offices.  The firm expects to better serve its existing Korea-based clients including Samsung and Hyundai, among others.

In China, the Beijing office announced the acquisition of partner Simon Kai-Tse Cheong from Zhong Lun.  Cheong brings vast experience in finance and bankruptcy law, with particular focus on cross-border regulations regarding foreign investment in China.

“Sheppard Mullin is a top-tier full service firm that offers an excellent international platform to provide sophisticated global services to clients in Asia. I am impressed by the firm’s strategic vision, and look forward to working closely with my new partners in China,” stated Cheong.
