Kilpatrick Townsend Continues Growth: Expands Asian Presence with Strategic Move into Taiwan

Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP announced today that it has opened an office in Taipei, Taiwan to serve strategic client needs and increase access to the significant growing legal and commercial activity in the region. The office opened January 1, 2011.

Glenn Rhodes, one of the world’s leading intellectual property attorneys, will serve as Kilpatrick Townsend’s Managing Partner of the Taipei office. Three attorneys, including associates Dr. I-Wen Chu and Cindy Chou, and of counsel Dr. Y.S. Hsieh, will also be joining the firm. The entire team comes to Kilpatrick Townsend from the Taipei office of Howrey LLP, where Mr. Rhodes led that office since its founding in 2006.

Internationally, Kilpatrick Townsend now boasts two offices in Asia including Tokyo; one office in the Middle East in Dubai; and one European office in Stockholm, Sweden. The opening of the Taipei office comes after the recent mergers between Kilpatrick Stockton and Townsend and Townsend and Crew and Kilpatrick Stockton and Bell, Rosenberg & Hughes giving the combined firm of Kilpatrick Townsend nearly 650 attorneys.

“A fast-growing Kilpatrick Townsend, with its internationally-recognized intellectual property practice, is committed to creating a major presence in the region,” said Bill Dorris, Kilpatrick Townsend Chair. “This move will greatly facilitate business development and the building of relationships with existing and new clients located across Asia. A presence in Taiwan, along with our office in Tokyo, gives direct access to key markets across the region.”

Kilpatrick Townsend is poised to make a real difference in the burgeoning region. Glenn Rhodes brings to the firm over 16 years of experience working in Asia.

“The entire team is excited about joining Kilpatrick Townsend,” said Glenn Rhodes, who will serve as Managing Partner of Kilpatrick Townsend’s Taipei Office. “Kilpatrick Townsend’s intellectual property department, with more than 300 attorneys and a recognized leader in the field, provides the perfect platform for enhancing service to our growing list of clients. It was evident from my initial conversation with Kilpatrick Townsend leadership that the firm has a strong commitment to Asia and understands what it takes to succeed in the region.”
