International legal practice Norton Rose Group today confirmed that leading Canadian law firm Macleod Dixon joined the Group on 1 January 2012.
As a result of the merger, Norton Rose Group has gained a team in Almaty, Kazakhstan and has significantly strengthened its Russian practice by growing its Moscow team to 40 lawyers.
The Group’s office in Almaty consists of a well established, experienced team of 12 lawyers, specialising in energy and mining. The practice is recommended by leading legal directory Chambers Global 2011 for energy and natural resources in Kazakhstan.
The enlarged team in Moscow will occupy a market leading position in the Russian energy and mining sectors. The practice is top rated for mining in Chambers Global and Chambers Europe 2011 and recommended for energy and natural resources.
Yerzhan Kumarov will continue to head the Almaty office. Peter Burrows and Anatoly Andriash will jointly run the Moscow office, working with the other Moscow partners.

As a result of the merger, Norton Rose Group has also deepened the strength and breadth of its existing capabilities in Canada with close to 700 lawyers, and has also entered Latin America for the first time with 60 lawyers across two new offices in Colombia (Bogotá) and Venezuela (Caracas).
