Norton Rose working together with students from Singapore Management University

International legal practice Norton Rose (Asia) LLP is working together with students on secondment from the University of Bath School of Management, in the UK, to Singapore Management University (SMU). The undergraduates are in the final year of their studies towards BSc in Business Administration. The team is working to plan and implement a campaign to support the business development of the insurance practice across Asia Pacific.

The five team members; Danielle Padfield, Jakub Januszewski, James Gough, Maciej Madej and Samantha Lott, arrived in Singapore on 12th August for their academic exchange. Having previously undertaken internships as part of their degree in companies such as CitiGroup, Intel and in UK UBS the team has both academic and practical experience to apply to the project.

Working closely with the business development team in Singapore, along with the insurance practice across Asia Pacific, the team is developing a piece of research into the insurance market across the region. By spending one day a week at the Norton Rose (Asia) LLP Singapore office the team has been able to work to a strict timeline and will produce a report analysing the findings of their research.

This project is an integral part of the students’ degree programme and holds the equivalent status of a dissertation.

Anna Tipping, corporate insurance partner said:

“The work of the students is helping us better understand the current issues facing the insurance market across Asia Pacific. Their contribution is ensuring that we are better informed to help our clients identify the opportunities in the region especially for growth. We are delighted with their work and would like to thank SMU and the University of Bath for the opportunity to work with them.”

Maciej Madej, University of Bath student said:

“I feel privileged to have been selected for the academic exchange at SMU. Our lecturers are inspiring and the classes are very interactive, which provides us with a great opportunity to enhance our academic knowledge and broaden our business horizons.”

James Gough, University of Bath student commented:

“The unique structure of the degree allows us to work with a legal practice on our Final Year Project and apply our academic knowledge into real life situations; this is extremely useful not only for learning but in preparation for graduate positions.”

Danielle Padfield, University of Bath student commented:

“Singapore, and in particular Singapore Management University, has given me a great opportunity to both work and study in Asia. It has encouraged us all to learn about different cultures and how they operate in an international business environment.”

Jakub Januszewski, University of Bath student commented:

“Working with Norton Rose is a truly amazing and enriching experience. It has allowed me to learn a lot about business development, gain new skills and meet very interesting people, which will definitely help me in my future career.”
