Allens advises ACCIONA on New South Wales wind farm

Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) has advised ACCIONA, the world’s largest independent (non-utility) renewable energy developer and owner, on the development of the $147 million Gunning Wind Farm.

The 46.5 MW wind farm, located in New South Wales’ Southern Tablelands, is ACCIONA’s 278th in the world and will deliver enough renewable energy to power 23,250 homes.

The project was officially launched by Prime Minister Julia Gillard on 20 July 2011. Ms Gillard was joined by ACCIONA Chairman José Manuel Entrecanales, senior ACCIONA leadership, and other industry and local stakeholders.

Allens, led by Partners Michael Graves, Paul Quinn and Anna Collyer, advised ACCIONA on all aspects of the project, including negotiation of the arrangements with the landowners, preparation of the contracts entered into by ACCIONA for the construction, operation and maintenance of the wind farm, and negotiation of the offtake arrangements.

Mr Graves said that Australia’s ability to encourage companies like ACCIONA to develop renewable energy capacity is an important part of Australia’s response to climate change.

‘State and Federal governments need to work hand-in-hand to attract the investment needed to promote renewable energy,’ Mr Graves said.

Allens is also advising ACCIONA in relation to the finance arrangements for the project. Allens’ finance team is led by Partner Simon Lynch and Senior Associate Michael Ryan.

ACCIONA is a global leader in renewable energy, water and infrastructure and Allens is proud to have worked with them in relation to the development of a number of projects, including the $1.5 billion Legacy Way Tunnel Project, the $1.83 billion Adelaide Desalination Project, the $450 million Waubra Wind Farm and the $160 million Cathedral Rocks Wind Farm.
