Ashurst Advises BHP Billiton on US$430m Sale of Uranium Deposit

Ashurst has advised BHP Billiton Limited on the US$430 million sale of its wholly-owned Yeelirrie uranium deposit in Western Australia to Cameco Australia Pty Ltd, which has now been completed.

Yeelirrie is located 630 kilometres north-east of Perth in the Northern Goldfields region of Western Australia. Uranium was discovered at the Yeelirrie site in 1972 by Western Mining Corporation, which was acquired by BHP Billiton in 2005.

Cameco Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cameco Corp. Cameco Corp, with its head office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is one of the world’s largest uranium producers, and is listed on the TSX and NYSE.
