G+T Advises Syndicate on North QLD Airports Refinancing

Gilbert + Tobin has successfully advised a syndicate of five banks on the A$530 refinancing of debt facilities originally used by Hastings Funds Management and other investors to acquire the Cairns and Mackay airports in Queensland.

The refinanced facilities will also be used to fund the ongoing capital expenditure and working capital requirements of the group.

Banking and Finance partner John Schembri led the team and was assisted by lawyer Gail Christopher.

Mr Schembri said, “We are pleased to have advised on this transaction which reflects the continued willingness of banks to lend to good quality infrastructure assets in Australia.” Mr Schembri also acted for the bank syndicate in the original acquisition financing in January 2009.

Gilbert + Tobin’s Banking and Finance group recently advised ANZ and Investec on the financing of the QEII Medical Centre Car Parking PPP Project in Western Australia. They also advised Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, BBVA, BNP Paribas and WestLB on the financing of the Mundaring Water Treatment Plant in Western Australia. These transactions again demonstrate the growth in the infrastructure financing market in Australia.
