Hogan Lovells advises Texas instruments on the establishment of its first manufacturing facility in China

Hogan Lovells has advised Texas Instruments Incorporated (“TI“) on the establishment of its first wafer fabrication facility in China, as well as the acquisition of fab-related assets and equipment from Cension Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a Chinese state-owned semiconductor manufacturer based in Chengdu.

Located in the Chengdu High-tech Zone, which is considered by many to be China’s next technology hub, TI’s Chengdu fab is a fully equipped 200mm manufacturing facility with a cleanroom that can support more than US$1 billion in production capacity. The fab also includes a second cleanroom for future expansion.

This transaction places TI closer to its growing customer base in China and further expands TI’s analog production capacity, The fab will also strengthen TI’s ability to support its customers’ increasing requirements in China and elsewhere.

Hogan Lovells assembled a multi-disciplinary team from its offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Silicon Valley, led by Beijing corporate partner Thomas Man and supported by core team members Xu Liang, Jack Sun, Chen Ke and Gabrielle Sun.

Commenting on the transaction Thomas Man said:
